How to Link AdWords to Google Analytics

Not having your AdWords account linked to Google Analytics I would say is a BIG no no!

Although Analytics is tracking all the information from the traffic you receive, it will not classify it as CPC traffic, and it won’t detect to which campaigns, keywords, etc. those visits belonged.

This is only done by properly linking your AdWords account and it’s as easy as pie.

Step 1: Go into your AdWords account and click on “My Account tab” and go to “Preferences”.

Step 2: Once you are under the Preferences page, go to “Tracking” and make sure that “Auto-tagging” says “Yes”. If it says “No, thanks”, then hit edit and choose Destination URL “Auto-tagging” and Save changes.

Step 3: Now, you need to go to “Tools and Analysis tab” and then click on Google Analytics. Once you are in your Google Analytics account click on the Admin button.

Step 4: Under the Admin page, go to “AdWords Linking”. Once you are there, click on the button “+New Link”. Then click on the button “Views” selected under “Link configuration”, and then select the account that you will be linking. Finally, hit the “Link accounts” button.

Now that you’ve linked the accounts you’ll have to wait for the data to start registering, as any prior data will not be shown.
